[attr="class","monbody2"]Memo stared at the dark, loamy soil, consternation heavy across his brow. The Gracidea seed was seemingly burning a hole in his pack-- he was eager to put it to work, doin’ its thing, and getting it’s grow on. But Memo had a dark secret-- he had the opposite of a green thumb, and most every plant he touched, he killed.

So he’d trekked out to Petalburg woods to do some recon and gather some intel on the enemy-- the enemy being a healthy, thriving plant. After a day of clambering over raised roots and pushing through thornbushes, he’d found a berry patch, growing wild along the underbrush, and bursting with ripe, delicious berries.

He’d taken notes as to the position of the sun, how much direct light the berries were receiving, the air and soil temperatures, and also how much moisture there seemed to be in the soil. Raising a plant was like composing a song, it seemed: they were each different and required different details to make it really stick in your head.

Which was the problem he was running into. He had all the moving parts-- beat, lyric, chorus, tempo-- but no inkling as to how to string them together to make a melody.

[attr="class","monbody2"]The flower-sweet air turned thick and sour as something wicked passed his way. Memo coughed into the crook of his arm and turned to find the Koffing floating over his shoulder, belching noxious smoke from the craters in it’s purple form. Memo didn’t know a lot about planting berries but he had a good idea that filling the air around them with poisons and toxins was not the best way to go about it.

Coughing again, he called forth his Shiftry, Maelstrom, who deftly the Koffing and its noxious fumes away.

[attr="class","monbody2"]Memo had just turned back to his berry musing when Petalburg began to vibrate with the steps of something large. He had enough time to turn around to see the hulking figure, ensconced in shadow, crashing towards him. Maelstrom was faster and hefted his trainer over his shoulder, leaping out of the way as the Rillaboom landed a powerful wood hammer right where he had been standing, digging a well in the earth.

Maelstrom deposited Memo unceremoniously on the ground and leapt back into the tide of battle, spinning on his toes and whipping his fans round and round to generate a hurricane around the Rillaboom; the great ape was forced backwards by the wall of wind, lost its footing, and was launched upwards, slamming back down to the ground on its back. It was a well-aimed attack and only the closest of branches and shrubs were uprooted in the chaos

The Rillaboom shook its head to try and clear the confusion, but could not shake the effect before Maelstrom was perched on its heaving chest, fans empowered with leaf blade energy and pointing right at the ape’s jugular. It all happened so fast, Memo had barely enough time to clamber up and pat the dirt off his ass before launching a Pokeball and securing the Rillaboom inside.

Memo wiped a speck of loam from his forehead and looked at his Shiftry, nodding in satisfaction. “Well done,” was all he could think to say; Maelstrom made a tch sound and crossed his arms, looking his trainer up and down disapprovingly. “Yeah, none of that,” Memo said, recalling the Wicked Pokemon and putting an end to his judgement.
